Want to make a hand-drawing video without hiring an animator or installing software? In this tutorial you will go from sketch to MP4 in under ten minutes with Editor de Vídeo Online, which runs right in Chrome or Edge. We will go through every setting so the result looks genuinely hand-made.

What you need before you start

  • A computer with an up-to-date Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  • A sketch as an image (PNG or JPG), ideally with dark lines on a light background.
  • A short script, even if it is just three sentences. It defines the order and timing of the drawing.

If you do not have a drawing yet, you can generate one with AI using Editor de Vídeo Online's built-in AI Prompts gallery (the "line art sketch" and "explanation with icons" cards). We cover this in AI image prompts ready to animate.

Step 1: open the Hand drawing mode

Open Editor de Vídeo Online. In the top bar, pick Hand drawing (“Mão desenhando”). The screen has three areas: the image and settings on the left; in the middle, the preview with play, pause, back-to-start buttons and a scrubber to jump to any point.

Step 2: upload your sketch

Open the Image section and choose the file, or simply drag the image and drop it on the preview. Your work is auto-saved in the browser as you go, so if you close the tab, everything comes back when you reopen it.

Step 3: choose the hand

You have three options:

  1. Default hand, neutral and works with almost anything.
  2. Hand with a sleeve, a bit more "corporate".
  3. Your own hand, by uploading a photo. Much more personal.

Then click the hand thumbnail to mark the pencil tip. That detail makes the line come out of the tip instead of the middle of the fingers. Hand size goes up to 400%, useful for high-resolution images. Learn more in how to use your own hand in the animation.

Step 4: tune the stroke

SettingWhat it doesWhen to change it
Stroke sensitivityDecides what counts as a line to be drawnRaise it if light parts are missing; lower it if noise appears
Brush thicknessWidth of the drawing revealIncrease for bold lines, decrease for fine detail
Hand sizeScale of the hand over the drawingToo small looks distant; too big covers the drawing

Step 5: pick a background

The Background section offers a gallery: the artwork's own paper, kraft, beige, white, dark, chalkboard, cardboard, notebook, grid and papercraft options. In Hand drawing mode, when the background differs from the original, only the line goes onto the paper. On dark backgrounds like the chalkboard, choose Stroke color: White (chalk).

Step 6: generate and review

Click Generate animation (“Gerar animação”). Use the preview scrubber to check:

  • That the hand starts in the right place.
  • That no important area is left undrawn.
  • That the pace matches the narration you will add later.

Handy shortcuts: Space plays and pauses, Ctrl+Z undoes.

Step 7: record the video

Click Record video (“Gravar vídeo”). Recording happens in real time from start to end, so keep the tab open and visible until it finishes. The file downloads as editorvideo_date_time.mp4. Clicking the button again cancels the recording.

Every recorded video is also added to the Studio (“Estúdio”), where you can join scenes, trim and add transitions. See how to edit the final video on the timeline.

Quick quality checklist

  • Does the drawing have good contrast?
  • Is the pencil tip marked on the hand thumbnail?
  • Does the aspect ratio match the target platform?
  • Does the length fit your audience's attention?
  • Did the tab stay visible during the whole recording?

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a photo instead of a drawing?

You can, but the result is usually messy because the hand tries to draw every color change. For photos, use the Paper effect or the Vox collage instead. If you want the photo as a drawing, create a line-art version first.

Can I generate several videos at once?

Yes. The advanced version (the avancado folder) uses Python and ffmpeg to batch-render videos at exactly 30 fps. See how to batch-generate videos with Python.

Why does my video stutter?

Because recording is real-time, background tabs or overloaded computers can drop frames. Close heavy programs and keep the tab in the foreground.

Conclusion

Making a hand-drawing video comes down to a good sketch and four settings: hand, pencil tip, stroke and background. Then you generate and record. Open Editor de Vídeo Online and make your first video now.
